      Sailing

      We were sailing,
      it wasn't the same
      as I remember.

      We were beautiful
      then.

      How could the time
      leave us?

      We loved it so.

      The pain is in
      our eyes.

      We disguise
      it only
      in the grief
      of shadows.

      Hiding
      our fears
      that sunlight shining
      might reveal
      years
      will
      age away
      all we know.

      We are sailing.

      Saturday Night At Home

Close your eyes and you won't see it,
and you won't have to be it,
      even though it's happening
      in front of you.
Ooo..., and you got nothing to do.

Cover your ears and you won't hear it,
even though you're very near it.
You won't have to hear it crumbling to the ground.
Your children are falling all around you,
      and you're stumbling too.
No, you don't want to hear them screaming,
no, just you a-keep on dreaming.

Hold your nose and you won't smell it,
even though you can tell it's
      reeking, and odors are leaking
through the cracks in your walls.
      Weakening your defenses
and you know you're gonna fall.

Jam the key in the door and lock it.
Put your hands in your pockets.
Listen to the Man and don't knock it
      when he comes busting through
and telling you what to do.
      Ooo..., telling you.

      Searcher

      Crossing high upon a mountain
there I saw upon the peak
      sights to other men unseen,
there I saw a searcher seek.

      Gazing out above the valleys,
      searching on beyond his view,
      looking for what other visions
      only he and heaven knew.

      See Me

      See me in white.
      Doing it right.
      Freedom in flight.
      See me in white.

      See me in green.
      Long, lean, and mean.
      Destruction machine.
      See me in green.

      See me in yellow.
      Beginning to mellow.
      A much better fellow.
      See me in yellow.

      See me in brown.
      Playing it down.
      Firm on the ground.
      See me in brown.

      Too late I tried
      to make you my bride.
      God knows it's true
      I'm loosing you.

      I'm loosing my grip.
      Beginning to slip.
      God knows it's bad
when you loose what you never had.

      See me in blue.
      Am I getting through?
      Are you getting the clue?
      See me in blue.

      See me in rose.
Nobody knows; I'm wearing your cloths.
      It comes and it goes.
      See me in rose.

      See me in pink.
      Beginning to sink.
      I've lost the last link.
      See me in pink.

      See me in red.
      Playing it dead.
      Straight to the head,
      you got me in red.

      See me in black.
      No turning back.
Like a train on the track.
Do you see me in black?

      Seem To Go

      As tears go by
      you'll realize
      dreams seem to go;

      like Mocking Birds
      stricken down by other words
      than those they know.

      Shapes

      Times I feel
      shapes of sadness,
      ever mine to know.

      Is life real;
      is it madness,
      reaching to it so?

      Giving all
that is the love in me.
      Still alone.

      Can a mind continue living,
      a heart survive and be
      always on it's own?

      The ones I cared about
the time that I was there
      leaving words perhaps will show.

      I think I feared
      they could not share
the grief that was my soul.

      Shine

Sun light shine on me just one more
      time today.

Sun, shine, smile and sing oh,
      rainy days away.

      A lonely lady walking when
      she wants to run.

And I think about the cruel
      things I've done.

      Rain is falling somewhere from
the ones like you and me.

      So Love Me

So you love me little darlin'.
      and together we will fly.
To dream castles of my making.
Up above your world so high.

      And in your imagination
it will be love for all time.
      But your only destination
will be to get left behind.

To be stranded in some desert.
      Realizing I am gone.
      With emptiness surrounding you.
While you sit and cry alone.

      Until another lover finds you.
      In your sorrow and despair.
Out of mercy tries to comfort you
but I still will not be there.

He will love the best he can.
And he will love you long.
But he still will be just another man
and I will still be gone.

And your heart will never soar again.
      No matter how it tries.
And you will take no pleasure in
      a love that never dies.

      So love me little darlin'.
Put your heart right in my hand.
It will crumble when I leave you.
Slip through my fingers just like sand.

These things are in my nature.
They are not part of my plan.
I would love with you forever here,
      but I don't think that I can.

      So you love me....

      Some One To Sing

      She stands there just waiting,
      and hoping for rain.
      Her blue jeans are fading,
      but so is the pain.

      In that last bar room
she thought she'd found the one.
Like the rest he loved her
until the good times were gone.

And lost in the street lights
      she knows there's a song,
      and someone to sing it
      if he'd only come along.

      Daddies and daughters
      will turn out the same.
      While you're taking his daughter
      he plays the same game.

In the darkness of the bar room
      you see a familiar face,
but you know your little darlin'
wouldn't be here in this place.

      Son

      This is my song,
      my song to Jasen.
      I'm singing it wrong,
but I gotta say to him.

      Hey, Hey, Hey, You
      gotta get mean some days.
      Ummmnmmn, I didn't mean
      to be that way.

      I remember. I remember
      the day you were born.
      I thought I would live.
I thought I would live. Forever!

I just want to warn you son.
You. You. You. You gotta learn to love someone.
You gotta really love. You gotta really love.
      You gotta really love!

      And then.
      Then you're gonna love you.
      Then you're gonna hate you.
      Then you're gonna be yourself.

      Hey Son!
      Someday
      you're gonna be.
      Like me.

      The Songs

      In another place
      with different times.
      In stranger words
      with other rhymes.

      The songs have all
      been sang before,
      and there forgotten
      sung no more.

      Sparrows

      Am I my brothers keeper?
      Hear him shout?
Let him sink a little deeper....
      Help him out.
      Oh great ruler over all
      He's all over under water.
did you see that sparrow fall?
Don't you really think we oughta
      and the pretty mushtoom growing
      help the kid?
      in the air?
      He's dead.
      way up there!?
      I said he died.
      In the sky?
      I cried.
      Why?

      Stolen Moments

All my time is stolen moments.
      Living in this life that's
      touched by you.

Like two clocks that tick together.
The beating of one heart that
      should be two.

I would give you all my moments.
You would give me yours if
      you could choose.

      Living in these stolen moments.
The rest of time is nothing
      much to loose.

      Stories Always End

      It's never going be
      like nineteen-sixty-nine again.
      Woodstock's gone,
      and love stories always end.

      Flowers bloom and wilt away
      with the passing spring.
We said all we had to say
      in the songs we sang.

Computers came and brought us all
      the golden age.
      Footprints left for all mankind
      turned another page.

Nixon made the war go away,
      and causes died.
      Disco took us all along
      on a flashing ride.

Rock and Roll's not the same today,
      like it was before.
Nothing that they try to say
makes me want to listen anymore.

      It's never going be
      like nineteen-sixty-nine again.
      Wodstock's gone,
      and love stories always end.

      It's never going be
      like nineteen-sixty-nine again.
      It's never going be
      like nineteen-sixty-nine again.

The Sun Will Leave You Now

Like a short or endless road,
like some people I have known.
      As a word that I have heard or spoken;
a vow that's made and bent or broken.

A rose that never ends or dies
will fade, and trade a truth for lies.
And if I cry out in your pain
I will remain, I will remain....

      A rose that doesn't end
      will never blend
into the scenery, or greenery, or trees.
      Or as you please.

I loose; but, as I leave,
      you'll never choose yourself again.
I wonder if you can believe
me now, or then, and then?

Looking back, I wonder if you can look back?
And day is night, and night is black.
The sun will leave you now.
The sun will leave you now.

An astute writer once advised all readers: "If you are reading and come upon a word which you do not know the meaning of, immediately, go to the dictionary and find out. Else you might well miss the single most important message in the book!"

I believe this advice could indeed apply to every aspect of our lives.
